Tips for Buying a New Truck

Trucks are among America's most popular vehicles. In fact, the Ford F-150 has been America's top-selling truck and overall vehicle for four decades. Are you considering buying your first pickup truck? Here are a few tips to consider ahead of purchase:

1. Driving a truck is very different from driving a car

If you are accustomed to driving in a car or even a smaller crossover, you will be surprised at how different driving a truck feels. Before taking your brand new truck home, practice with a friend's or family member's in an abandoned parking lot to get the hang of it. If you intend to be towing with your new truck, you should also practice that in a lot before your first real attempt. You may also consider upgrading to get certain safety features like blind-spot monitoring that make the transition easier for you as a new truck driver.

2. You can get accessories after your purchase

When you buy a new pickup truck, you can most definitely opt for all the accessories you want. But if you aren't exactly sure if you'll need something because the world of truck driving is so new to you, you can always wait and then come back to the dealership later to order accessories once you've realized you need them.

3. Know why you will be driving your truck

You can get a mid-size truck like the Ranger a full-size truck like the F-150 - and you can get both in various configurations, with different bed lengths and seating capacities, and with a range of engines, including diesel. Before purchasing your new truck, consider what you will be using it for. Do you need a long bed for transporting cargo? Do you need the torque of a diesel engine? How important is towing capacity? Ask yourself these and other questions to determine your specific needs.
