Engine Oil

It's easy to check your vehicle's oil. About once a month, check you engine's oil. If necessary, top it off with the appropriate formula for your make and model. In the vast majority of vehicles, it's a good idea to change your oil every six months or 3,000 miles. However, these numbers vary based on your vehicle's make, model, and year, so check your owner's manual for more information.

Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid keeps your car shifting smoothly. You should also check it monthly, but your car should be running when you do it. Instead of volume, you're checking the fluid's quality - it should be red, not brown or burnt-smelling. If it's dirty, it's time to replace it. Since transmission fluid is part of a closed system, the fluid shouldn't be low. If it is, that means there's a leak in your system. To prevent further damage, bring your car to our service department for service.

Coolant

Also known as antifreeze, coolant keeps your car from overheating. It's a good idea to check it at least every six months - once before summer, and again before winter. For safety reasons, never check your coolant levels when your car is hot. When your vehicle is cool, open the radiator cap and peer inside. If the fluid is below the mark, top it off. Have it flushed and replaced every 2-3 years.

Brake Fluid

Similar to transmission fluid, your brake fluid should never be low, although it can get dirty with particles, like metal shavings. You should check the brake fluid every time you change the oil. Make sure it's not brown or cloudy. It should be due for a change every two years.

Power Steering Fluid

This fluid helps keep your vehicle's steering smooth, responsive, and easy. Check it and replenish it monthly, and check the manual to see how often it should be replaced. If it's low, you'll notice the steering wheel creaking. If it's frequently low, your vehicle may have a leak in its system.
