Engine Options

The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost® inline four-cylinder engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift®, serves up 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Also available is a 3.0-liter EcoBoost® V6 that cranks out 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. On the new ST trim, Ford pairs that engine with twin turbos to up horsepower to 400 horsepower and increase torque to 415 lb-ft.

Explorer Hybrid

The 2020 Explorer is also offered as a hybrid for 2020. While Ford has not yet released EPA estimates for the Explorer Hybrid, the automaker has promised that the Explorer's range will be over 500 miles between fill-ups.

Interior Space

The spacious new Ford Explorer can seat up to seven, depending on trip, and boasts up to 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space with rear seats folded. The SUV is also available with its largest ever twin-panel moonroof that spans the first and second rows.


Ford has also made its Co-Pilot360® suite of safety technologies standard across the entire Explorer lineup. This suite of driver assist safety features includes Evasive Steering, Automatic Emergency Braking (which includes Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Brake Support, and Forward Collision Warning), BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System, auto head lamps with auto high beams, and a Rear View Camera with built-in lens cleaner.
